SECOND husband indicted for smuggling nuclear weapon tech to Russia

A second key figure in the alleged plot to smuggle  technology from America to Russia has been revealed Рand he is another suburban husband who was apparently living a double life.

Vadim Yermolenko, 41 lives in a luxury $1m, four-bedroom, four-bathroom  home with his glamorous wife and their young children, DailyMail.com can disclose.

His identity can now be disclosed after it emerged that another accused member of the conspiracy, , runs an online craft store in with his wife.

Yarmolenko and Brayman, who were indicted Tuesday then released after posting bail, allegedly helped supply Russia with technology that can be used in nuclear and hypersonic weapons. The scheme was part of a sophisticated plot orchestrated by the country’s security services, prosecutors say.

The elaborate smuggling network, which spanned several continents, has been likened to the plot of a wild espionage drama.

Away from Yermolenko’s alleged role in the shadowy ‘Serniya Network,’ which is controlled by spymasters in Moscow, he maintains the image of a loving family man in a leafy middle-class suburb of million-dollar homes.

He lives with his wife, Diana, and their three young children in a desirable four-bedroom, four-bathroom home in Upper Saddle River, New Jersey.

Yermolenko, a U.S. citizen, and Brayman, an Israeli citizen born in Ukraine, are named in an indictment which was unsealed Tuesday when both appeared in court charged over the plot.

Yermolenko, represented by a federal defender, was released after posting $500,000 bail, using his family home as security.Brayman was also released on $150,000 bail and subject to electronic monitoring. Both men were told to surrender their passports.

Yermolenko’s glamorous wife, Diana, regularly shares snaps of their holidays abroad, including to Russia, on social media, along with photos of her with her husband, who’s accused of smuggling sanctioned weapons equipment from the United States into Russia.

Yermolenko and his wife are both from Russia, according to their social media profiles.

Diana’s Facebook and Instagram posts paint them as a loving family who enjoy a jet-set lifestyle, holidaying in sun-soaked destinations across Europe and the U.S.The couple, who married in July 2011, also take frequent trips to St Petersburg.

Diana, from Mirny in Russia’s Sakha Republic, regularly posts proud photos of her family, including pictures of her eldest daughter figure skating.

Yermolenko’s profile says he is the founder of Divatek, a New Jersey-based company which sells cell phones and other electronic devices.

He says he studied at Dante Alighieri, in St Petersburg, an ‘international society founded to promote Italian language and culture throughout the world.’

But prosecutors allege, that behind the image of a family man and successful entrepreneur, Yermolenko helped the Serniya Network ‘acquire sensitive military and dual use technologies for the Russian military, defense sector and research institutions.’

Dual use technology is equipment like semiconductors and other sophisticated instruments that can be used in both civilian and military products. It is key to maintaining , which has cost the lives of thousands of civilians – and massively depleted Moscow’s stocks of weaponry.

Yermolenko is accused of playing a key role in getting equipment worth millions of dollars to fellow family man Brayman, who then shipped it to Europe before it was smuggled into Russia.

Yermolenko deployed deceptive and fraudulent tactics to open shell companies and bank accounts in order to mask the reason for the purchases and destination of the products, it is claimed.

With Brayman, he would alter, forge, and destroy shipping documents, invoices and other business records to unlawfully export items from the United States.

Diana Yermolenko is not charged with any crimes.

The equipment that was trafficked in the conspiracy is sensitive and highly-regulated. The U.S. and other countries have imposed strict sanctions designed to prevent Russia from obtaining such ‘critical western technology.’

Yermolenko allegedly worked with a Russia-based defendant called Boris Livshits, a 52-year-old from St Petersburg.

Livshits took requests for sensitive items from the Serniya Network and then obtained them from U.S.businesses using front companies, forged paperwork and other deceptive tactics.

Those items were then trafficked out of the U.S. with help from Yermolenko and Brayman, authorities say.

On one occasion, Livshits ordered Yermolenko to ‘throw away the invoice’ for an order.Another email reveals he instructed Yermolenko to tell a bank that payments were for ‘bicycle spare parts, sporting goods and textile products.’

Prosecutors also revealed the vast web of the supply chain which carried the technology into Russia. Common intermediary countries included locations in Estonia, Finland, evDen eVe nAKLiYaT Germany and Hong Kong.

Brayman and Yermolenko allegedly delivered some of the items to Vadim Konoshchenok, 48, a Russian based in Estonia, who moved them across the border.

Konoshchenok describes himself in communications obtained by authorities as a Colonel in the FSB, Russia’s federal security service and the successor to the KGB, according to prosecutors.

As well as moving the technology, Konoshchenok ‘repeatedly’ attempted to smuggle tens of thousands of rounds of US-made ammunition across the Estonian border into Russia, including sniper rifle rounds and military grade .223 rounds.

Prosecutors say the seven defendants named in the indictment, which was unsealed yesterday, participated in ‘a transnational fraud, money laundering and sanctions evasion scheme controlled by a foreign power that is actively engaged in armed conflict’.

Confusion reigned at

Confusion reigned at ‘s school in ¬†on Thursday after the principal said it was closing permanently, only for parents hours later to email all and say classes would continue.

Reports then emerged that the teachers had quit – following the string of controversial and antisemitic rants its founder has made in recent weeks.

It was not clear how many teachers had quit, and how many remained, but the chaos comes amid  following his tweets.

Donda Academy, in the Simi Valley, is highly secretive, with parents signing a non-disclosure agreement to keep the school’s location secret and agreeing to say nothing about it.

There are believed to be around 100 students from pre-K to 12th grade paying $15,000 a year, and 16 teachers.

On Wednesday, the principal,¬†Jason Angell, sent an email to parents explaining that West, 45, had decided to close the school ‘effective immediately,’ with classes being cancelled as of Thursday.

Around midnight on Wednesday, however, parents at the exclusive Christian school received the following morning.

‘Join us tomorrow morning in worship for the return of Donda Academy,’ the email read.¬†

West returned to Instagram this week after being banned earlier this month, announcing he lost $2 billion in a single day, in an apparent reference to Adidas dropping his Yeezy shoe line

West returned to Instagram t¬†around his anti-Semitic behavior, which has included repeated claims of ‘Jewish people’ in the media conspiring against him, and Planned Parenthood controlling black populations through genocidal abortions.¬†

On Thursday the rapper said on Instagram that he ‘lost 2 billion dollars in one day’ in an apparent reference to the flock of brands which have dropped him in the wake of his bigoted behavior.

This week Adidas dropped his Yeezy shoe line – a deal which was worth $1.5billion – with Gap, Footlocker, TJ Maxx, and Balenciaga all following suit and cutting ties with the rapper.

Donda Academy’s closure and sudden reopening come just two months after it started up in August.¬†

The school did not respond to DailyMail.com requests for comment.

There are reportedly a number of celebrities’ children in attendance – including R&B singer¬†Keyshia Cole’s son Daniel – and the school is well known for its high-powered basketball team.Rising star Robert Dillingham, 17, plays for the school, and NBA players like Celtics player Jaylen Brown have made appearances at the school.¬†

Students wear all black Balenciaga uniforms and Yeezy shoes designed by West himself.

Despite running the school, West’s children do not attend, and he has clashed with Kim Kardashian on the matter.

West previously complained on social media that Kim wouldn’t agree to send their four children for ‘[two] days at one school, three days at another.’¬†

As of September the school had not yet been accredited, according to the , which means colleges might not accept diplomas from the school.

The Donda Academy website states that the school’s goal is ‘to¬†provide the youth with the passion, purpose and spiritual foundations they need to thrive in tomorrow’s world.’

Angell emailed parents on Wednesday announcing the school’s closure for the remainder of the school year.

‘At the discretion of our founder, Donda Academy will close for the remainder of the 2022-2023 school year effective immediately, he wrote.

‘There is no school tomorrow [Thursday].’

Angell noted that the school’s leadership would help parents and students transition into their new school, and added that the Donda would begin ‘afresh’ in September 2023.¬†

On Wednesday the school’s basketball team was booted from the The Scholastic Play-By-Play Classics tournament, saying West’s ‘words and actions violate our values as a company and a country, and what we seek to ensure at all of our events – a spirit of diversity, sportsmanship, inclusion, equity and mutual respect.’

Representatives for the tournament expressed their remorse that West’s words cost his students the experience of participating in the coveted high school basketball tournament.¬†

‘While we are firm in our reasoning for this decision, it does not diminish our heartache and regret for Donda’s hardworking athletes who will lose out the most as a result of Kanye’s actions,’ the school added.¬†

‘Unfortunately, we cannot in good conscience host an organization founded and directed by Mr.West at our events.’

Guy Sebastian’s long-timer manager has been jailed for a minimum two-and-a-half years for¬†embezzling more than $600,000 from his star client

Guy Sebastian’s long-timer manager has been jailed for a minimum two-and-a-half years for¬†embezzling more than $600,000 from his star client.

Titus Day was sentenced to a maximum four years in prison by Judge Tim Gartelmann at ‘s Downing Centre District Court on Thursday afternoon. Here is more regarding eVdEN Eve NAKliYat look at the web site. ¬†

Judge Gartelmann said the offences ‘all were committed for financial gain’ but it could not be established beyond reasonable doubt that 49-year-old Day was motivated by greed.

‘There is no evidence of remorse as the offender maintains his innocence – nor is there any evidence regarding prospects of rehabilitation,’ Judge Gartelmann said.

He found Day re-offending was nonetheless unlikely.

Day was originally charged with 50 counts of embezzling at least $886,175 in royalties, performance fees and an ambassadorship from Sebastian between 2013 and 2020.

A jury found the father-of-three guilty in June of 34 offences in relation to money totalling $624,675 after deliberating for almost a week.

The offending was a breach of trust but there had been no significant organisation or planning, Judge Gartelmann found. It was not known how Day spent the money.

Publicity surrounding the case and the destruction of Day’s reputation had left him ‘devastated’ and it was unlikely he could ever recover professionally.¬†

The court case pitted two men who were once extremely close against each other and EvdeN eVE naKliyat dragged in their wives, who had also been friends.

The brutal split between Sebastian and Day also rocked the entertainment industry.

Judge Gartelmann said character witnesses had universally described Day as generous, honest and trustworthy. All considered his offending out of character.

Singer Tina Arena was among those who provided a reference for Day, describing him as ‘someone she trusts’ and a man with ‘honesty and integrity’.

The trial was beset by woes, including the death of original judge Peter Zahra, the dismissal of five jurors from a panel of 15 and Sebastian and Crown Prosecutor David Morters SC contracting .

While it was Day fighting for his liberty, Sebastian said he felt he was on trial during the hearing and most of the media attention focused on him.

The Voice judge was forced to reveal intimate details of his finances, including sometimes astronomical fees for performances and so-called ‘contra’ deals.¬†

The sums that were embezzled range from $593.53 in royalties from Sony Music to $187,524.42 for the Taylor Swift gigs. They also included $57,086.93 for a performance in Singapore and $77,042.96 from a Dreamworld ambassadorship.

Day contended some of the money was withheld to pay expenses and buy shares on Sebastian’s behalf but Judge Gartelmann did not find evidence to support those suggestions.¬†

The performer had an agreement with Day under which the agent was to receive a 20 per cent commission on his earning and was paying his manager $500,000 a year.

Sebastian terminated the arrangement in November 2017 in what became an acrimonious split.

He subsequently found ‘anomalies’ in financial records suggesting he was still owed payments by Day and in July 2018 launched a civil claim against him.

Day made a counter claim against Sebastian alleging he was owed money, which led to an examination of the agent’s banking records revealing further anomalies.Sebastian then went to police.

Day told police the chart-topper owed him $1.2million in outstanding commissions.

Mr Toomey took Sebastian through invoices, payment statements and banking records, many of which the singer said he did not recall ever seeing.

At one point a frustrated Sebastian told Mr Toomey.’I am not forensically skilled‚Ķ when it comes to money and numbers it is pretty clearly not my forte.’¬†

Sebastian told the court some of what Day did for him required a ‘heavy work load’ but for other tasks he needed ‘very little’ assistance.¬†

Day’s contribution to marketing Sebastian’s song writing and television appearances was negligible.Day would ‘hardly ever rock up’ when he was a judge on The X Factor, for instance, ‘but will take a $200,000 fee’.¬†

Sebastian denied he felt ‘great animosity’ towards Day, saying he instead felt ‘great disappointment’ in his former agent.

‘I have a lot of confusion as to now it’s got to this point,’ he said.

Singer Tina Arena (above) was among those who provided a character reference for Day, describing him as ‘someone she trusts’ and a man with ‘honesty and integrity’

In another exchange, Mr Toomey suggested to Sebastian he was ‘earning a large sum of money’ during his time under Day’s management.

‘Not as large as it should have been, Mr Toomey,’ he said.¬†¬†¬†¬†

Mr Toomey quizzed Sebastian about ‘contra’ payments, which involved receiving goods for his services rather than money.¬†¬†¬†

Sebastian agreed he been involved in ambassadorships with Bose, AirAsia, Canon and Yamaha and accepted a Bluefin boat as payment for performing at a festival in Queensland.

Mr Toomey asked Sebastian if he considered ‘contra’ – to be income.’I’m not sure,’ he responded.

‘It’s not something I’ve ever thought about. I hire accountants who’ve been instructed to do everything by the book. You don’t buy a dog and bark yourself.’¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†

Sebastian also had to contend with an email he sent to Day describing the fans of Westlife singer Shane Filan as being ‘fat older women’.

Sebastian had been reluctant to support the Irish boy band star on a 2017 tour because his appearance would not be ‘the right fit’.

‘I said something which wasn’t great, something about feral old women or something,’ he told the court.¬†¬†

In another sideshow to the trial, Evden eVe nAKliYaT Jules Sebastian repeatedly denied her husband was a violent man when she was quizzed about an incident in the couple’s home in 2012.

Mrs Sebastian had rung her husband about an intruder she said was attempting to enter the couple’s house at Maroubra in Sydney’s south-east.

Her husband confronted the young man and there was a physical altercation but he denied headbutting the young man, although he told friends he had.

Day sought an apprehended violence order against Sebastian eight years later, citing his ‘violent history’.

It was two days after the AVO was served that Sebastian went to police with his complaint that Day had withheld money from him.

Day had told police he received a phone call in May 2020 in which someone said:¬† ‘Guy Sebastian wants you f***ed’.

College student's leg amputated and skull crushed in train accident

A Boston College student, 20, who lost her footing and was dragged underneath a moving train suffered multiple injuries in what her father has called a ‘preventable’ accident.

Ava Harlow is undergoing treatment at Brigham and Women’s Hospital after she suffered a fractured skull, crushed pelvis, broken arms, cuts to her face, and broke one leg and lost part of her other leg.

The Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) police said at about 11.30pm on January 27, Harlow got off a Green Line train at the Boston University Central Station with a group of friends just moments before tragedy struck, according to the .

While knocking on the window to signal friends Harlow took a step in the direction in which the train was moving, slipped, and fell under the train.

Boston Fire Department, alongside Emergency medical services, Boston police and MBTA responded working together to rescue the Bridgewater State University student.

The 20-year-old’s father, Andrew Harlow, told that his daughter had to be resuscitated twice before she was taken to ICU.

‘Ava was intubated on about seven different medications at the intensive care unit and it was still dicey as to whether she could live,’ Harlow said to the outlet.

‘I want to know who the guy was who tied her tourniquet.I want to know who it was that resuscitated her the first time, then the second time. I’m just grateful to the guys.’

While thankful his daughter survived, Andrew told Boston Herald that the tragedy could have been prevented and that he’d been ‘numb’ when he received the call.

‘[The driver] could have [seen] that she was banging on the friggin’ [sic] side of the car and not pulled away,’ he told the outlet.

‘They have mirrors. They have horns. They’re supposed to toot the horn before they take off.’

Andrew said the family had ‘retained a lawyer’ but wasn’t ‘at liberty’ to comment on whether the operator was at fault and whether he planned to take action against the MBTA.

She posted a statement on her announcing their decision, writing: ‘After nearly five years of marriage, eVdEn EVe nAkliYAT with love and respect, James and I have decided to go our separate ways. Our time time has been some of the most precious, defining, and awakening years of my life. ‘[It was] the healthiest thing for both of us to honor that,’ she wrote.’It is never easy to end a relationship with someone you love, but that does not always mean ending it is the wrong thing to do.’¬†

In December, the pair appeared very in love as they enjoyed a trip to Fletcher native country just days before Christmas.

Baldwin posted photos of the laid-back couple eating a traditional meal of fish and chips with ‘mushy peas!’ and visiting the Royal Albert Hall where ‘James printed our wedding invitations’.

She shared multiple photos of them exploring London via a double-decker bus and a snap of her sprawled on the hotel’s heated bathroom floors.

The couple’s trip didn’t indicate any sort of trouble in paradise as Baldwin proudly showed off moments with Fletcher’s family, including a video of ‘peppering’ her husband’s childhood friend’s kids with questions about English boarding school.¬†

‘Fun fact: My husband was sent away to school at seven!’ she wrote with a shocked-faced emoji.¬†

The only slight indication the couple was struggling was a New Year’s eVDen eVE naKLiYAt post which said she ‘vowed to continue *doing the work* so I can show up as the best version of myself for MYSELF…and then also for my husband…and anyone, really.

‘I’ve found myself thinking a lot about fear this last week.Fear of the unknown. Fear of failure. Fear of not living up to what we’re capable of. Fear of showing up as our full selves and being rejected,’ she wrote on her Instagram in an honest post.¬†

It appears the former TV anchor is facing a lot of unknowns as she heads into 2023 single and on a new career path.Baldwin left CNN after 13 years last April after she slammed the company for its lack of women leaders.

Baldwin announced in February 2022 she would be leaving the liberal network. At the time, Baldwin made the shock announcement at the start of her 3pm show, CNN Newsroom, telling viewers ‘there is just more I need to do outside the walls of this place’.

Ahead of her departure, Baldwin, who first joined CNN in 2008, sat down for an interview with podcast where she described CNN as a male-dominated network.

Baldwin's divorce just nearly a year after she left CNN which she claimed was 'dominated by men'.  She said prior to her last day at the network: 'The most influential anchors on our network, the highest-paid, are men. My bosses, my executives, are men'

‘The most influential anchors on our network, the highest-paid, are men. My bosses, my executives, are men. The person who oversees CNN Dayside is a man, and my executive producer for 10 years is a man. So I’ve been surrounded by a lot of men,’ Baldwin said.

Baldwin, who was temporarily pulled from the air in the build up to the 2020 election and replaced by Jake Tapper, said during the interview that she has fought for women’s stories.

‘I know I, personally, fight for women’s stories,’ Baldwin said.’I got told no a lot and I still managed to do it,’ Baldwin said, referring to the CNN series American Woman.

She noted that CNN has slowly started to give more women power but ‘we still have a bit of a ways to go. I want more women in the room’.

Baldwin’s exit may have been foreshadowed last fall when she posted a cryptic message to Instagram in October which suggested she was being forced off the air and temporarily replaced by Tapper.

She gave no explanation for the move, but told supporters it was ‘not my choice’ to temporarily withdraw from her afternoon slot.

She said she was going ‘nowhere’ in response to a question about her moving on elsewhere, and also dispelled speculation that the decision to step aside was for health reasons insisting that she is ‘healthy.’

Her show was then pulled for several weeks, with CNN claiming they needed more airtime for the reporters in Washington, DC.

Baldwin was one of the network’s highest-earning journalists, with a reported annual salary in the region of $4million.

The highest paid is Anderson Cooper, who is said to earn around $12million a year.

U.S. weekly jobless claims increase, labor market remains tight

Weekly jobless claims increase 13,000 to 196,000

*

Four-week moving average of claims falls 2,500 to 189,250

*

Continuing claims rise 38,000 to 1.688 million

By Lucia Mutikani

WASHINGTON, Feb 9 (Reuters) – The number of Americans filing new claims for unemployment benefits increased more than expected last week, but the underlying trend continued to point to a tight labor market.

The jobs market has remained resilient despite growing economic headwinds from the Federal Reserve’s interest rate increases. While labor market strength keeps the U.S. central policy on its monetary policy tightening path, it also suggests that a much anticipated recession is nowhere near.

„We would be crying wolf if we said we thought there was a recession signal in the weekly unemployment claims data this week,” said Christopher Rupkey, chief economist at FWDBONDS in New York.”Recession is not around the corner with layoffs this low, and the downturn, if it is coming at all, is months away.”

Initial claims for state unemployment benefits rose 13,000 to a seasonally adjusted 196,000 for the week ended Feb.4, the Labor Department said on Thursday. That was the first increase in claims since the second last week of December. Economists polled by Reuters had forecast 190,000 claims for the latest week.

The four-week moving average of claims, considered a better measure of labor market trends as it strips out week-to-week volatility, Evden eve naKliyAT fell 2,500 to 189,250, the lowest level since last April.Unadjusted claims rose 9,628 to 234,654 last week.

There was a jump in claims in California as well as notable increases in Ohio and Illinois. Those rises offset decreases in Georgia, New Jersey and Texas.

Claims have remained low despite high-profile layoffs in the technology industry as well as the interest rate-sensitive finance and housing sectors.Walt Disney and Zoom Video Communications added to the growing list of companies laying off workers, announcing 7,000 and 1,300 jobs cuts, respectively, this week.

Economists say most of the companies, evdEN Eve nAkLiyAt especially in the technology industry, overhired during the COVID-19 pandemic. They noted that small businesses continued to seek workers.

There is anecdotal evidence that companies are generally reluctant to lay off workers after experiencing difficulties recruiting during the pandemic.

Workers remain scarce in some industries. There were 1.9 job openings for every unemployed person in December, government data showed last week. According to an Institute for Supply Management survey last Friday, some services businesses in January reported they were „unable to hire qualified labor,” saying that „supply is thin.”

U.S.stocks opened higher. The dollar fell against a basket of currencies. U.S. Treasury prices rose.

STRONG JOBS MARKET

Economists speculated that severance packages were delaying the filing of unemployment benefits claims, while the abundance of vacancies made it easier for laid-off workers to find jobs.

„If the company offers severance, the claims are not counted until the severance expires,” said Gus Faucher, chief economist at PNC Financial in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.”But even so, the job market remains remarkably strong.”

Economists also believed that seasonal adjustment factors, the model the government uses to strip out seasonal fluctuations from the data, were keeping claims lower.

The seasonal adjustment factors for 2023 will be updated at the end of March.Applying the average seasonal factors for the prior two years with the same calendar configuration as 2023 would put claims at 210,000 in the latest week and a four-week average of 200,000, according to Conrad DeQuadros, senior economic advisor at Brean Capital.

„Nonetheless, this would still be a low reading on claims and indicate that either involuntary separations remain low and/ or those who lose their jobs are quickly re-employed elsewhere,” DeQuadros said.”There is no sign of easing of labor market tightness here.”

The claims report also showed the number of people receiving benefits after an initial week of aid, EVDen eVE NakliYat a proxy for hiring, rose 38,000 to 1.688 million during the week ending Jan. 28.

Lower layoffs have been a major contributor to strong job gains. The government reported last Friday that nonfarm payrolls surged by 517,000 jobs in January, the most in six months, after rising by 260,000 in December. The unemployment rate fell to more than a 53-1/2-year low of 3.4% from 3.5% in December.

Fed Chair Jerome Powell said on Tuesday that the central bank’s fight to tame inflation could last „quite a bit of time,” in a nod to January’s blowout job gains.Since March, the U.S. central bank has hiked its policy rate by 450 basis points from near zero to the 4.50%-4.
